Twitter’s search engine leaves a lot to be desired. The native search frequently brings up incomplete results, both in a current search and going back. Plus Twitter search seems to frequently be down, and always be shoddy.
The best alternative, and a great way to track and search Twitter, is Scoopler. Scoopler is a fast, real-time search engine for Twitter – that’s also got some cool features of its own. It does its main job well, and adds just enough features to make it miles ahead of Twitter’s own search.
For the sake of full explanations, let me tell you that Scoopler also searches results from Flickr, Digg, Delicious, and some other sites – given the relative slowness with which these sites are updated, Twitter tends to both dominate search results and be the most functional use of Scoopler’s search.
When you search for a word or phrase (pick your own, or use one of the popular ones Scoopler suggests), you’re taken immediately to a waterfall-looking column of tweets, that updates as new ones come in. Frequently, it’s too fast to read, especially if you’re tracking a popular subject; you can easily pause the updates if you need to catch up.
In addition, Scoopler does an excellent job with multimedia stuff – videos, images, links, and the like. Within the stream of tweets on your topic, Scoopler extracts all the videos, image, and links to a convenient sidebar, where it organizes them by type, and by the number of shares. If a video is being passed around, you can see it without digging through the stream to figure out what it is you’re looking for. You can easily share anything on Scoopler, too, just by clicking “Peek.”
One thing I like to do periodically is click the “view all” button on the home screen – this tracks all of the most popular topics at once. First of all, the speed at which they update is crazy. Second of all, it’s a lot like skimming news headlines, and is a great way to get caught up on what’s happening.
One day, I predict, Twitter will fix its search – it’ll probably look a lot like Scoopler, actually. But for now, Scoopler seems to be one of the best of a small number of Web apps that let you search and track what’s happening on Twitter and in the world, pretty much at the speed of light.

By now you’re probably familiar with the The iPhone 3GS(S stands for SPEED) name. But in case you had a few questions regarding OS 3.0 or the new device I have got it covered.
The biggest question on most peoples mind is what the major differences are. First of all it should be pointed out that the latest update to the hardware is under the hood. The only difference in terms of visual design between the iPhone 3G and the 3GS is the name on the back of the device. But under the hood is where the real work has been done. Instead of reinventing the most popular smartphone on the market, Apple has decided to do the subtle thing and improve it. These improvements come in the form of a better processor (up from 412MHz to a rumored 600MHz). The camera has been bumped up a megapixel to 3.0 and comes with video recording and auto focus, although there still is no flash option. A hardware compass has also been included.
On the software front, OS 3.0 now comes with push notification, better MMS, tethering, the long awaited cut and paste as well as a proper GPS navigation solution. Spotlight has finally made its way to the iPhone which promises to allow users to do system wide searches. Rounding up the major features for OS 3.0 is Voice Control and stereo Bluetooth options.
So now that you get an idea of the major updates to not only the software but the phone its time to answer a few FAQ’s.
Q: Is there a big performance difference between the 3G and 3GS?
Ans: While the performance is noticeable, it is not one that is huge. Unless you’re running games such as Resident Evil etc. you will notice load times of one to two seconds faster but that is about it. On the other hand if gaming is a requirement for your iPhone then you definitely want to look into the 3GS as the gaming performance (including frame rate) are mark improvements over the 3G.
In terms of internet speed etc. this remains the same as the 3GS has the same wireless chip as its predecessor and AT&T is not rolling out 4G until another year or two.
Q: How useful is cut and paste?
Ans: There is no doubt that cut and paste is a standard feature of any smartphone, but one question everyone has on their lips is if cut and paste on the iPhone is comparable to that on other devices such as the Blackberry and Palm Pre.
First of all, Apple has decided to go with a predictive selection technology that tries and figures out how much of the text you want selected to cut, copy or paste. It’s pretty accurate and if it fails to give you what you want, you can always use the little nubs at the begging and end of the selection to increase or decrease your selection, something that is lacking in all other smartphones I’ve tested. Was it worth the wait, probably not, but at least it brings something new to the game.
Q: Is the Compass and Voice Control useful?
Ans: A compass in a cell phone wasn’t something most industry analysts were expecting. But Apple decided to shock us with a full working hardware compass in the 3GS iPhone. As to whether it is useful or not is yet to be determined. I will say that if you are planning to upgrade to the new 3GS, the compass should not be on your list of reasons. While it works perfectly, it’s yet to be proven how it is more useful then the built in GPS with Google maps. Had the phone been lacking GPS options then maybe, but honestly I am yet to see a real use for the compass except for hikers lost in Wyoming. It still is nice to play around with though.
Voice control is another new feature that I’m not quite getting. Yes it’s awesome to be able to tell your phone what to do instead of making it do it. But I just wish the voice control features were a little easier to operate. For one it requires you to hold down the home button for every use, and since multi tasking still hasn’t made it to the iPhone, once the Voice Control app is exited, you have to do the process all over again. However it is nice if you want to keep your eyes on the road instead of on your phone.
Q: What’s up with Tethering and MMS?
A: If you live in the U.S, I’m sad to say that AT&T sees no reason in bringing tethering (or MMS) to the iPhone3GS at launch (June 19th). While they have said that MMS will be available later on this summer, there is no word on when the tethering option will be available.
That said for those in other countries that will offer the tethering option, you should find it to work just fine. Unfortunately since I’m based in the U.S the option to try out both the MMS and tethering features were unavailable. Hacking could have gotten the job done though, but that would be too much trouble and more importantly would not make sense for this review.
Q: Should I upgrade/switch carries for the 3GS?
Ans: This is the biggest question on everyone’s lips. The question has so many factors so unfortunately the answer will depend on a few things. If you still have the original iPhone (not the 3G), the answer is obvious. You were due for an upgrade like yesterday, and I’m almost sure that most people who have the original iPhone have finished their contracts or about to finish them. So the answer is a no brainer, upgrade!
On the other hand, if you are a 3G owner you should consider your options before upgrading. If you are still stuck in a contract it might be in your best bet to just get the software upgrade and live happily ever after. The only major difference in the 3G and the 3GS is the speed and unless you are a heavy iPhone gamer, you probably won’t notice the one to two second difference in app load time. However I understand that AT&T is allowing existing customers to get a 3GS at the subsidized price, based on credit, contract length and a few other factors. This is individually based so your best bet would be to contact AT&T. As for other countries such as England (Vodofone), I have no idea.
If you are with another carrier this is even a tougher decision. If you happen to have Sprint and due for an upgrade in the near future, I would advise that you check out the Pre before jumping ship. It rivals the iPhone in many areas and beats it in some (namely multitasking). On the other hand if you are tied to T-Mobile, Verizon etc, and your contract is either expired or about to expire, you cannot go wrong with the new 3GS.
Please Note: The 3G is still available for purchase ($99 on contract). I would not advise trying to save an extra Benjamin in this area though as the performance boost and other hardware upgrades are well worth the extra $100.

The way I would use WebSlug would be to test a website’s speed. Make some minor modifications (one at a time) and test the speed again. A very handy tool at your fingertips to troubleshoot with – all you need is a web browser and an internet connection. The web site has this little tidbit for you:
Webslug is just a way of identifying potential problems with your website’s performance. How to improve it is an exercise we’ll leave to you. With that being said a general rule is that about 80% of improvements can be made on the front end.Let’s take a look at how WebSlug works and play with its Compare feature. Today I'll share something like that, something really cute, so let's get started. One of the few flash game websites that gets pretty darn close. So get ready, and read this post with open eyes.
Orisinal.com is a site started back in 2001 by a quirky guy named Ferry Halim, winning awards and acclaim for its simple yet addictive cute flash games. This website is the essence of simple, cute, fun, and relaxing to take your mind off your worries and put you at ease, at least for a while... So, let’s talk a bit about the games, shall we? Oksss!
Each of these little squares represents a separate cute flash game. Each flash game has its own custom composed music, controls, gameplay, and graphics.
Orisinal likes to use lots of cute and cuddly animals in its games, and the music is some of the best ambient and gentle music I have ever heard in my life. As for the gameplay, most if it requires that you have a mouse and are at least half awake, Lolz. Take probably its most famous game, for instance: Winter Bells (depicted below). As you move your mouse around the screen, the bunny follows. Once you click, the bunny jumps into the air. The goal is to jump on consecutive bells and go higher and higher, trying to not fall back onto the ground:
There are some other features on the site including linkback, guestbook, tell a friend, and an online store where you can purchase mugs, t-shirts, clocks (like the raccoon clock below), and other assortments of goods to make your abode a sunnier, happier place.
You can also arrange flowers in a vase of some sort and send it to someone’s email to brighten their day. Spending a couple of minutes on this site is like enjoying a cup of camomile tea!

OrSiSo is an Adobe AIR application, it is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. OrSiSo is a social network and chat-network aggregator, which currently supports Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Friendster, Flickr, AIM, Windows Live (MSN) Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.
The main idea of OrSiSo is to organize, keep track of and communicate with all your friends across all these networks. I certainly have been looking for a program which does just this.
Chat:- As an instant-messaging client, OrSiSo doesn’t offer many options, but does well as a chat client, especially with a combined buddy-list from all your networks. It’s worth noting that hyperlinks aren’t yet supported in the chat, I hope that this is fixed in a future release.
Pop-up Alerts:- Pop-up alerts are per network, and are treated like pages which you can flip through if you wish. Hyperlinks work here, and updates can be paused when you’re busy.
Photo albums:- Pics and Photo albums can be viewed from within the program; there’s no need to open a new browser window or tab. That is definitely a very very good feature.
Social Firewall:- The best and most unique features of OrSiSo are so-called the Social Craft and the Social Firewall. These settings let you organize your various “circles” of friends through drag-and-drop lists, and then customize which updates you see. In the example above, I’ve organized everyone into one of four circles, with the fourth circle reserved for persons from whom I don’t particularly care to hear from (I find myself regretting the mass-follow I did a couple months ago). You can filter received messages and updates by social circles just about anywhere in the program.
I’ve found it very user friendly adn easy to learn, use and is very well-rounded with features. Does it do the trick for you?

Yesss!!! Let me set the scene for you. You ere at a Bon Jovi concert and you’re lucky enough to be in the front row! The band starts up playing “Living On A Prayer” and the arena erupts with excitement. The whole crowd is belting out the lyrics when it comes time for the chorus. All together the crowd goes “WWWOOOOAAAH!” then Jon sticks the mic out for the crowd to join in and it happens to be in front of your face. You scream “We are almost there!” BBUUZZZ, what have you done? Wrong! The crowd dies down, the band stops and you realize that you have just killed the concert.
I’ve searched and scanned the World Wide Web to save you from ever having to encounter this and found the three best sites on the net for song lyrics. I evaluated them for a vast library of Pop, Oldies, Indie and everything in between. The sites need to be easy to navigate, the design should lend itself well to lyric browsing and the search function should be prominent without too many cheap ads & pop-ups getting in your way (let’s face it, they have to make money somehow).
So, here we go - counting down from number three to number one.
3 - MetroLyrics.com
In a huge leap forward, MetroLyrics stands heads and tails above LyricsPlanet. Upon visiting this site, you are presented with lots of valuable information about the music world. You are shown upcoming hot releases, the real current top hits and a nice and neat search bar.
One nice feature about their search is that you can type just the parts of lyrics that you remember and it will find you that song. (Similar to sites Lyrster and Lyricsfly) Remember that time you were humming a tune and wondered what on earth that was from? MetroLyrics can tell you.
Navigating the site was quite easy but the way the search results were presented threw me off a little bit. The results are presented with the Artist and Song Title highlighted on different sides of the column and then partial lyrics displayed below which confused me. All in all, I’d say they have a large selection, easy enough navigation, great search capability and some good features, like a handy iTunes plugin and a forum that distinguish it from the rest. It is worth your time to check out.
2 - LetsSingIt.com
LetsSingIt is where the lines start to blur between music discovery site and lyrics site which works extremely well. They have an extremely powerful search box prominent on the homepage that made it simple to find any song, artist or lyrics you’re looking for. I got creative and decided to look up MC Hammer on this site. Of course, I went for “You Can’t Touch This”.
As you’d expect I was presented with the correct lyrics for the song but LetsSingIt gives you so much more. There is an artist bio, discography, top songs, pictures, fan pages and the feature that really made the site stand out, a YouTube video of the song embedded in the page. These videos are embedded by the users of the site and are all correctable by other users in case one of the links dies. The video feature made it fun to read along with the lyrics while you rock out to you’re old pal, MC Hammer.
I was torn between the top two sites in this roundup. LetsSingIt fell to #2 due to their design. I think they tried to pack too much into their pages and it makes it seem cluttered. The information is great and visible but in the sidebars, you can get lost.

If you’re looking for lyrics online, I say that there’s no better place to go besides Lyrics.com and with a domain name like that, they’d better be good. All of the features from the previous two sites are combined into one and then made even better by the folks at Lyrics. You are presented with a clean, impressive design with minimal ads.
There is great information such as new releases, top hits and most popular songs displayed right on the homepage. A powerful search bar resides on the top that allows you to search for lyrics, songs and artists. Results are displayed in a clean, easy to read way. There is a great community built around the music with many people for you to interact with.
Lyrics pages present you with not only the lyrics but also with a video to rock out to as you scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs. One feature that set this site apart was the dedication section. Those of you love birds out there will like this section to share meaningful songs with your special someone.
Out of all the sites I tried out for this round up, Lyrics.com really impressed me the most. It is certainly the best place on the internet to find any song lyrics.

So, if you’ve been wanting to play some YouTube videos on your TV, now is the best time to try it out. YouTube XL is another interface for accessing YouTube, except everything is huge!
As you can see above, the site’s format gives you a much easier time to click on icons or links that actually fill up the entire screen. When I tried this out on my tablet connected to my Sony 52” flat panel it was a breeze to navigate and play videos. It was love at first site!
I did a quick search by selecting the search box in the upper right hand corner away from all the other links and typed in Eminem.
Results were shown in an easy to choose format and playing a video was just so damn easy. I selected the top result and I was on to watching my video.
The controls are easy to use as they are also large and in charge.
You can do anything here that you can do on YouTube and it is a great user experience for us big fan of YouTube!

From messages to pokes to walls, we have found instant ways to touch each other on Facebook. From the next big thing, it has morphed into a big thing. We have helped it along by connecting with those we live, share and work.
Facebook applications hopped on the fame bandwagon. Little nuggets of code built on the Facebook platform by third party developers that helps unsocial web creatures like us to be more social. There are multitude of applications, some gems and some duds.
Adding an application is a two-click process but as you go further down the Facebook highway, you will find that you don’t have a need for some of the apps. Or, you just might be peeved at all the annoying alerts and emails bombarding your account.
It’s time to nuke them! But how?
Here’s how!
User feedback says that removing an app from the vintage Facebook was child’s play. The revamped look calls for a bit of looking around. But it’s not a pain in the wrist at all.
1. Login to your Facebook account.
2. The Applications menu is located on the bottom left of the screen. Click on it to bring up the menu.
3. Click on Edit Applications. Alternatively, click on Settings – Application Settings located on the top blue Facebook bar.
4. The Applications Settings page opens up with the recently used apps listed in order. Click on the drop-down menu and select Authorized to view all your applications.
5. To remove an application simply click on the little blue cross on the right. To confirm the deletion click Remove on the confirmation dialog which pops up.
If you are just vexed over the annoying emails, then you can click on Edit Settings – Additional Permissions and deselect the options.
The application now stands deleted from your Facebook profile. You’ll not be able to use it again unless you add it to your Facebook profile all over again.
Some apps might continue sending you information to your email account registered with them. To de-authorize yourself completely, you might have to follow any cancellation link provided in the email.
Facebook’s proprietary apps like the Wall, Events or Notes etc. are needed for full functionality of the service. They cannot be removed but there settings can be adjusted through the Edit Settings option.

Do you want to work out and not have to think about which songs you want to take with you on your music player? How about if you just want some music to “chillout” to? If either of these sounds like it could be your nirvana, then the SanDisk slotRadio Player may be the device for you.
The SanDisk slotRadio Player is a music player that comes with a slotRadio mix card that’s preloaded with 1,000 songs from artists on the Billboard charts. The slotRadio mix card is actually a specialized microSD card so you can use your own microSD card, too, once you’re done listening to the 1,000 tunes (more on that later).
The slotRadio Player itself is a very cool looking device. It’s made from die-cast aluminum and features a 1.5-inch OLED screen. It also offers a built-in FM radio which can display the song and artist as well as call letters from participating radio stations. As for navigating the player, you are presented with left and right navigation controls that can be triggered by pressing to the right or left of the screen. This allows you to go through different genres / playlists. Once you find a genre you like you can pause the song in that genre or skip the song entirely. You can also navigate left or right again to switch to a different genre. The slotRadio Player also has a clip built-in for clipping it to yourself for working out, walking around, or just enjoying your music and ships with both a USB cable and a plug that lets you charge the slotRadio Player in a standard AC outlet.
For my tests: the slotRadio player worked without fail. I took it out of the box, plugged in the headphones, plugged in the slotRadio Mix card, and was listening to the slotRadio mix card in seconds. I also flicked the slotRadio player to FM and that’s when I noticed it showing me the song and artist that was playing on the radio–nice touch! After I was done listening to FM, I switched the slotRadio Player to PLAY mode. The player started playing music immediately and also showed a variety of animations while the music was playing. For example, during “Rock” you are treated to an animation of a rock band and while in “Workout” you see silhouettes of people running. The display also cycles between which song is playing and which song is coming next in the playlist.
I also tried to drag my own music over. According to SanDisk, there’s about an album’s worth of space available on the slotRadio Mix card. I dragged over two Billy Joel MP3s and when I wanted to access them I navigated to the “MyChannel” playlist. From there I was able to cycle through each song.
I mentioned navigating the slotRadio Player earlier in this review. One thing I didn’t highlight was the player’s inability to allow the user to go back to a song previously played. In order to hear a song that you have already listened to in your playlist, you have to cycle all the way through again. This is done for business reasons. Basically it’s a “legal thing” and that’s how SanDisk can deliver 1,000 songs so cheap. I should also mention that the songs are DRM’d and there’s no way to access them aside from playing them on the SlotRadio Player.
That said, legal or not, it’s still troubling, though most people probably won’t even be bothered by it, especially since it’s touted as a feature and it’s supposed to deliver a “laid back experience” since you can just let the slotRadio Player play the playlist or skip a song if you don’t like it.
After playing with the slotRadio Player for a while I can now see its appeal. If I just want to take a player with me for a good workout, the slotRadio Player has a workout theme already made, and I didn’t have to hook up the player to my computer to get it. This goes for many other genres / playlists. Whatever mood you’re in, there’s already a playlist ready and waiting to be listened to. If you want additional music you can purchase another slotRadio Mix card or make your own on a microSD card–it’s just that easy.
The slotRadio Player is currently $99 and comes with 1,000 songs. At that price it’s a bit pricey but when you consider that it comes with 1,000 songs, and also allows you to use your own microSD card, it’s not too hard to stomach.

The same software developer who created the iTunes Playlist Exporter has created another useful third party tool for Apple’s iTunes media manager. The software is called iWatchSyncer and its main purpose is to monitor a folder on the local hard drive for new music to synchronize it with the iTunes software. The software has been designed to be foolproof. All the user needs to do is to pick a folder on the computer system that should be monitored for new music files.
The only other available option is to select a playlist to be created or extended with the music that is found in the monitored directory. This is an optional step though and not required for the music import to work properly. The software will check the folder for new music periodically and add it automatically to iTunes whenever new music is discovered in that folder on the drive. It looks like the interval is set to 1 minute as music that is moved to the folder gets quickly added to iTunes all the time.
The program has to be running in the background for this to work properly. It uses quite some computer memory (34 Megabytes on a Windows XP test system) which might make it to memory hungry for some computer systems. Could be worth a try for users who regularly add music to a specific folder and its subfolders on a computer system though. The music does get added to iTunes regularly as well.
The popular music manager iTunes offers a great and easy way of creating playlists. It takes a few clicks to create and fill a playlist in the iTunes software. There is however no official way of exporting playlists from iTunes to the computer system. This might be interesting for users who want to transfer playlists to other devices or systems that cannot be connected to the iTunes software, e.g. a mp3 player or cell phone from another manufacturer.
Enter iExporter. The software program for the Windows operating system comes with the means to easily export playlists to the computer system. The only restriction of the program is that it currently only works with native mp3 files.
The software has to be connected to iTunes upon start. This is done by clicking on the Connect to iTunes button. The software will be opened if it is not open already and the two tabs playlists and artists will be populated. The playlist tab contains all playlists that are currently available in iTunes. The artist tab on the other hand offers the possibility to export selected artists from iTunes. This did not work on the Windows XP SP3 test system though.
iExporter is a great software for iTunes users that want to export some or all of their playlists to their computer system.

It happens more and more, people trying to merge several items into one. We see it happening in the mobile phone sector, where nearly every phone is a camera and a radio as well, and in the software industry as well. This being good or bad is something for you to decide.
We’ve seen multiple applications, trying to expend the reach of Torrent clients and the like. The Vuze and xTorrent clients both implement the web in their applications, allowing you to browse torrents as well as downloading them.
However, why is it that the web should be integrated in a Torrent client? Why not integrating torrents into a web client? Well, Wyzo manages to do just that, and the results are astounding.
Wyzo - The Media Browser
Wyzo’s long-term aim is to make web browsing smarter and more enjoyable. They want the user to feel home and to have the tools he needs, at any given time.

This third version of Wyzo has been completely restyled. You’ll notice that the tabs and buttons have adapted a slick chrome-like appearance. It’s a professional-looking skin that’s easy on the eyes - nothing too graphical, like some of the things we see these days.
Torrent Downloads and Acceleration
In the area of downloading, Wyzo comes with two major trump cards; FireDownload and FireTorrent, two great addons developed by the guys behind Wyzo.
FireDownload is a simple download accelerator. It doesn’t do anything particularly fancy, except speeding up your downloads. A lot. By using multiple connections with the server, FireDownload can accelerate your downloads up to ten times their original speed.
FireTorrent handles, as you might’ve guessed, the torrent integration. All torrents are simply added to your browser downloads. You can download in multiple sessions, and seeding happens automatically. Using FireTorrent, torrents become as easy as direct downloads.
FireDownload and FireTorrents are also available as Firefox add-ons via FireAddons.com.
Search Everything
Wyzo comes with a customized startpage, which allows you to search the interwebz for almost everything, including torrents, images, video, news, blogs and maps. Each section gives you access to multiple search engines (e.g. you can search for torrents on YouTorrent, Mininova, Vuze and Torrentz).
Add-ons
Besides FireDownload and FireTorrent, Wyzo is pre-loaded with various other Firefox extenstions, that enhance the user’s browser experience.
Remember your OS’s alt-tab function? Ctrl-Tab does the same in your browser. It’s a slick and easy way to visually navigate between your open tabs.
Cooliris - Gives you a visual representation of web content. On supported sites, it crawls for pictures, videos and articles, and presents these as a picture wall. It’s an extremely beautiful, and addicting way to surf the web.
FireGestures - Allows you to perform simple actions through mouse gestures. Hold a trigger and draw simple shapes to navigate and interact with web pages. You can also add new gestures, by using user-scripts.
