The first jailbreak application for the iPhone 3GS has been released by premier iPhone hacker George Hotz. Yes by the same guy who you may remember unlocked the first iPhone too.

The software is named “purplera1n,” and it is availabe for windows only, not Mac, and not Windows 7. Hotz says a jailbreak for Mac is “coming shortly.” Hotz’s application requires an iPhone 3GS running the 3.0 OS, and the latest version of iTunes — 8.2. Once the hack is applied, your 3GS will become unlocked, but you will still be tied to your carrier.

The unlocking tool is in beta version so please make sure that you have backed up all your important data before attempting this jailbreak. Hotz has released his purplera1n solution because the iPhone Dev Team have decided to wait. In his blog post Hotz says:

Normally I don’t make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes.

This is a simple hack to enable MMS on iPhone OS 3.0

The non-availability of MMS and tethering feature in the U.S at the time of the launch of iPhone OS 3.0 was probably the most disappointing news that was announced at the WWDC 2009 Keynote address.
In case you didn't know, Aaron Krill over at Krillr.com has also figured out a way to enable MMS on iPhone OS 3.0.

Now, on to the walk through.

Before you start, you must have these things:

• Modified version of ATT_US.ipcc which can be downloaded from here.
• iPhone running iPhone OS 3.0
• iTunes 8.2
• Another AT&T Phone (not an iPhone)

You then need to enable IPCC updates for iTunes 8.2 and copy the IPCC file to your iPhone. To achieve this, you need to follow these instructions:

Enabling IPCC Updates for iTunes 8.2:

iTunes 8.2 will not allow you to apply the IPCC updates so you need to follow these steps:

MAC OS X:

1. Close iTunes.
2. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal).
3. Run the command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE.

Windows 32 Bit:

1. Close iTunes.
2. Go to Start then Run and type CMD.
3. Run this command(If you right-click on the cmd window you can paste): “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1.

Windows 64 Bit:

1. Close iTunes.
2. Go to Start then Run and type CMD.
3. Run this command(If you right-click on the cmd window you can paste): “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1.

Copying the IPCC file to your iPhone:

The above steps will allow you to update the IPCC using iTunes 8.2. To copy the IPCC file to your iPhone follow these instructions:

1. Open iTunes & plug in your phone.
2. Click on your phone in iTunes(under device settings).
3. Windows Users: hold shift and click “Check for updates”. MAC OS X: hold alt and click “Check for updates”.
4. Select the IPCC you downloaded earlier.

This is where your other AT&T phone comes in handy. You need to follow these steps to enable MMS on your iPhone:

1. Remove the sim cards from both the iPhone and your non-Apple phone
2. Place the iPhone sim card into the non-Apple phone
3. Power on the new phone
4. Make a phone call or two (your voicemail works)
5. Log in to your myWireless account at wireless.att.com
6. It should now say that your device is whatever you put your SIM into. If it doesn't, repeat step 4 a few times.
7. Go to the "Features" tab
8. Select a "Messaging Plan", one that isn't an iPhone plan.
9. Click next and go through all the legal crap
10. You should now have MMS enabled on your account... So DO NOT ADD AN IPHONE TEXTING PLAN BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT! EVER! IT WILL DISABLE MMS AGAIN!
    

So this is where things change a bit.

1. Find and write down the IMEI from your non-iPhone phone. The method for finding your IMEI will vary based on your phone make and model, so go google it.
2. Try to send an MMS. It will probably fail.
3. Call AT&T customer service.

This is where things start to get tricky. We have to get a CS agent to change your account's associated IMEI WITHOUT changing any of your features. Sometimes this is difficult. To make your life easier, I've designed a step-by-step procedure on how to accomplish this.

1. Call 611 from the non-iPhone
2. Tell them that you've switched phones and need to update your IMEI
3. Give them the IMEI you wrote down
4. Once they do this, they'll try and get you to change your Data plan. Tell them you have an sudden emergency and dont have time but you'll call back in about 20 minutes to change the plans. Hang up immediately.
5. Wait about 5 minutes and try sending an MMS
6. If it doesn't work, call them back and tell them you're having issues with MMS on your phone.
7. If they try and get you to update your data/text plans, hang up and try again. You get a different CS agent every time, sooner or alter they'll fix it without trying to get you to change plans.
8. Swap the iPhone sim card back into the iPhone
9. Reboot the iPhone

It should work, and hopefully they won't notice you have an iPhone and do the re-optout

This has worked for a few people. Hopefully it will work for you.

Please Note: AT&T Family Plan users who have a family messaging plan can skip steps 7-11.
Please don't add an iPhone texting plan back to your account, as it will disable MMS again.
Aaron has reported that AT&T may be blocking these steps from immediately taking effect so he has adviced users to call AT&T after step 10/11 and before step 12 to complain that MMS isn't working. According to him this should fix the issue.

Before you start, read our jailbreak preparation guide: more after the fold.

Before you start, let me tell you this guide is not applicable for:

• iPhone 3GS
• iPodTouch 2.0
• Unlocking iPhone 3G

We have tried it out, and figured out the process. If you have done any iPhone jailbreaking before, the process is the same as with PwnageTool 2.0. That being said, here's a step by step guide to using the 3.0 Pwnage Tool.

Disclaimer: We are not responsible for any damages to your iPhone during the use of our article/video/instructions.

Keep the following in mind before you begin (as of time of this post):

• The PwnageTool is available only for MAC OS
• The newest version of iTunes, iTunes 8.2, is must required
• You can only Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using this tool, you cannot unlock it at this time
• You can Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone 2.0
• You can Jailbreak iPodTouch 1.0
• You cannot jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS
• You must restore your iPhone to the latest firmware 3.0

1. You will need the following files before your start:

• PwnageTool 3.0
• Latest Firmware Files for your iPhone or iPodTouch
• Boot loader Files - you need them only for iPhone 2G

2. We recommend you to put all the files and "Pwnage Tools" programs in one directory

When you download firmware files may be named:

iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.zip
iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.zip

Don't UNZIP, change - rename them to

iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

3. Back up your iPhone

4. Disconnect the USB cable from your iPhone

5. Turn off/Shutdown your iPhone (Hold Home and Power button until power off slider is shown)

6. You can have iTunes running (it doesn't matter anyways)

7. Start PwnageTool

8. Follow the steps in Pwnage tool

* Accept Copyright and Disclaimer
* Select Simple or Expert Mode (this guide is based on Expert Mode)
-
* Select Device Type to Jailbreak/Unlock
* Click to continue in expert mode, you will see "Browse for IPSW ..."
* Click "Browse for IPSW ..." and select the firmware for your device
* After selection you will get to IPSW configuration screen.

* Configure your custom IPSW file.

- Select First Configuration - General, and click Next (blue button)
* You'll get to the General Settings Screen. You can uncheck "Activate the phone" setting if your phone was officially activated and you are on a contract with an official service provider. (i.e. if you have an official contract with AT&T)
* If you are using an official service provider you do not need to "Unlock Baseband", therefore you can uncheck that setting. Keep in mind that "Unlock Baseband" will not work on the iPhone 3G (settings will be grayed out) as of the time of this post - you will need to read our ultrasn0w guide when ultrasn0w comes out.

Make sure to put unziped Boot loader Files in the same directory as pwnagetool and they will be located automatically.
* Settings for Cydia Installer: You can download packages into your custom IPSW file from different sources.

* Use this URL to connect to Cydia Source:

http://apt.saurik.com/dists/tangelo/main/binary-iphoneos-arm/Packages

* Click Next
* On this screen select Cydia and Icy and click next.

* On this setting screen you can pick your custom logo settings. If you uncheck them both, the originals will remain.
* When you press Next you will get back to the Settings List screen. Click on "Build" and then "Next".
* You will be asked for the name and location of your custom IPSW file.
* When you select the file name and location, the custom build process will start.

* During the build process you will be asked for the Username and Password of your computer (the Mac Admin Login). Enter it in so you can continue the build process.

* At the end of the custom build you will be presented with this message:
* If you are not sure enter no. This is needed for you to enter DFU Mode.

* You will have to follow the instructions in the Pwnage Tool to enter DFU Mode. If you did everything right, you will get the following message:
9. Connect your iPhone via USB

10. Start iTunes (if you closed it)

11. You will be presented with the message below: iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
12. Press OK

13. Now you need to select the custom IPSW file you created. Hold Option/Alt Key and click Restore.

14. If you are in DFU mode and have created a proper IPSW file, iTunes will restore that IPSW into your iPhone.

Please Note:

• If you get any error during custom restore, follow the How to recover your iPhone guide.
• This jailbreak has been tested on iPhone 2G and 3G
• The Dev Team is working on a method to jailbreak the new iPhone OS 3.0 on a PC.
• PC users may be able to do it now if they can first create IPSW file on a Mac, and then send it over to their PC. Regardless, a Mac is required as of now.

You have probably been in a situation in which your iPhone seems dead (white apple logo on a black boot up screen).

You may ask yourself: "Huh? What did I do?" Try to trace your steps:

a) Have you installed any new applications? or
b) Did you do a hard reset while your iPhone seemed frozen?

There's nothing you can do about some app crashing your iPhone. But you gotta stay away from hard resets, do them only after you're 100% sure that your Phone is not responding.

You probably tried this method (getting the device in recovery mode) and still cannot connect to iTunes. If all failed, follow the following steps:

1. 1st thing you need to do is turn off your iPhone. You may need to do a hard reset: (hold Home and Sleep buttons until the screen turns off).
2. Now Connect USB cable to your iPhone and open iTunes

3. Now, this is the most difficult part of the process.

-You need to get your iPhone into DFU (Device Firmware Update)
-Timing is everything, so make sure you have a timer.
a) Hold Home and Sleep Buttons for 10 seconds
b) After 10 seconds release Sleep Button
c) Continue Holding Home Button for 10 more seconds

If you performed the steps above correctly you will see this message in iTunes:
If not, then repeat the steps above again - keep in mind timing is everything.

4. During the next step, iTunes will restore the original firmware to your iPhone:

After the process, your iPhone gets restored but remains blank/empty.

5. After the restoration process, the iPhone reboots. If you are still connected to iTunes, you will have an option to restore your iPhone from the back-up.
Please Note: If you have been stopping backup during the iPhone sync process and have never completed your backup in full, shame on you. You will not be able to restore from backup unless you have completed a full backup in the past.

Select your option of choice and click continue.

If you selected the backup option, you will see a backup progress bar.
Note: The backup process will move at a steady pace until the last 5-10% (see screenshot above). After that, the progress bar will not move for a long period of time (1- 3 hrs). Do not stop the restore process. Everything is fine, it just takes a long time. FYI - it took us 2.5 hours for the restore process to complete.

6. After the restoration process completes, iTunes will give you a prompt and the iPhone will reboot.

After that, you will need to sync your iPhone. If your iTunes is configured to start sync automatically, you don't need to do anything.

This simple guide will bring your iPhone back to life after being crashed by 2.0.1

Note: Although the reason for the 2.0.1 caused crash is unsure, it was probably a result of my iTunes not being up to date. I had not yet updated to 7.7.1.

1. Disconnect your iPhone from the USB chord (no need to "eject'' in iTunes because the error automatically kicks your iPhone off)
2. Hold down the Home button and the Sleep button for 10 to 20 seconds. You will see a white light flash. The screen will shut off. Continue holding the buttons until the screen turns back on.
3. At this point, your screen will display the "Connect to iTunes" text.
4. Leave your phone alone - and please make sure it's not connected to your computer.
5. Close iTunes and all other programs running on your computer, it's important.
   
6. Uninstall (via Control Panel) "Apple Software Update" and "Apple Mobile Device Support"
7. After you uninstalled the two above programs, uninstall "Quick Time" and then "iTunes".
8. Now Reboot/Restart your computer
9. Make sure you have no "QuickTime" or iTunes" folders left anywhere on your computer. If you're using a PC, go to C>>Program Files, and search for "iTunes" or "QuickTime". Delete the blank folder.
10. Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download iTunes.
11. Run the installation of iTunes and QuickTime.
12. Now iTune is fully installed in your computer, open iTunes and connect your iPhone.
13. You will get a pop-up notifying you that you "must restore your iPhone".
14. Press restore.
15. Allow ample time for your iPhone to restore.
16. Once the first restore is complete, iTunes will ask you whether you want to restore from a back up or treat it as a new phone.
17. Hopefully you have backed up your iPhone, otherwise you will lose all contacts, music, video, photos, and apps.

Yo! Your iPhone is back to life.

Note: If you have not yet updated to 2.0.1, it is extremely important to make sure you have iTunes 7.7.1 first. To check, open iTunes and go to Help >> About iTunes. Update if necessary.

I think you would have noticed that sometimes when you are listening to music in your iPhone's iPod and at the same time trying to run some Apps or Games and your application or game got stopped working(in nerd's slang "crashed"). This has happened to me many times and i used to end up with restarting my iPhone, because as an iPhone user we are not given any guides or tools to know the reason why the Apps don't work always and generally we blame the App developers.

Here is the reason why these Apps crash up and how you can avoid 'em.

Whenever you run an App on your iPhone and close it, it is not really closed and it keep running in the background, and use your iPhone's memory resources. The iPhone comes with a 128Mb of total Runtime memory and don,t connect this with the storage memory which the handsets come in, normally amounting to 8Gb , 16Gb or 32Gb. Now all the applications and the Operating System has to process in the total 128Mb available which means that you can't run multiple applications at the same time because of limited memory resources.
Few built-in applications like the the iPod player, Phone application, Mail application and the Safari web browser etc. continiously run in the background even when closed and this is the main reason the iPhone users suffer from crashing applications. Now the only solution for this till date was restarting the handset in order to close all the processes running in the background, but i have got a better solution which is available in the form of a App.

Free Memory iPhone App – The Operating System does not allow Free Memory to kill any app directly. When Free Memory(app) frees up memory, the OS releases the memory Free Memory(app) requests. If it can't release the memory, apps are closed to free up the memory. In some instances, Mail or iPod remain running because they do not consume loads of memory. The App costs you 0.99$ and is not a free app, but i am very much happy after buying this application since i don't have to restart my iPhone again and again and waste another 5 minutes. Whenever i feel my iPhone is running slow. I just simply tap on the Free Memory App and click on Free Memory and done, and my iPhone run quicker without any crashes.
Some other advantages of using this App are that once you free up some of your iPhones memory the background running process are cleaned up and this inturn would save up your iPhones battery which means you can improve iPhone battery life and you can also check out the battery level in the same App.

Ever wanted to restore factory setting of your mobile phone? Maybe you changed your handset’s language, and now you don’t know at all what your menu is saying. Here is the solution, to reset your phone with default factory setting by dialing a number: Keep reading to know the code for your phone.

SymbianOS Series60 devices (Nokia 6600, 7610/6670 and all other latest Nokia phones, Siemens SX1, Panasonic X800 etc.) and Nokia 7710:

Make sure the battery level is above 75%. Enter *#7370# at the stand-by screen and you will be asked for a confirmation and you will have to enter a security code (12345 by default).

There is another method to format a Series60 phone. You may try this when you forget your security code. Switch off your phone and remove the Memory Card. Press and hold the three keys - Green (dial) key, * (Star) key, and the number 3 key on the keypad and then press the Power ON/OFF button to switch the phone. Hold the three keys until the Formatting screen is seen.

SymbianOS Series80 devices (Nokia 9500, 9300 communicator phones):

Remove and re-insert the battery. When you see the Nokia logo at the PDA display, simultaneously press and hold down Control (Ctrl) + Shift (the one with the UP arrow) + F keys until you’ll be prompted whether or not to proceed with format. If you don’t see the format menu, remove and re-insert the battery and try again. If the Communicator display remains black after inserting the battery, press the power button on the phone side while keeping the cover open. After formatting, the device reboots itself. If the display remains white after reboot, press the power button on the phone side while keeping the cover open.

Sony Ericsson P800/900/910i (Should work on the latest phones as well):

Make sure the flip is closed when you do this. You need to use the jog wheel to proceed with the format. Move the jog UP once, press * key, move the jog DOWN twice, press * key, move the jog DOWN once, and press * key. This takes you to the service menu and you can reset your phone from this menu.

Dell Axim X3 / X3i / X30:

To hard reset, press and hold the power button and press in on the reset button (reset hole) on the back of the unit for about 2-5 seconds. Release both buttons and you will see a confirmation screen asking you if you would like to clear all data in memory. To do so press the Contacts button.

Dell Axim x50 / x50v / x51 / x51v:

Make sure the device is on before performing hard reset. To hard reset, press and hold the power button and press in on the reset button (reset hole) on the back of the unit for about 2-3 seconds. Release both buttons and you will see a confirmation screen asking you if you would like to clear all data in memory. To do so press the Contacts button. To cancel press the Mail button.

HTC Apache, Sprint PPC-6700, Verizon XV6700:

While holding both soft keys (buttons with “-“on them), push in on the reset button once. Make sure you are still holding onto the soft keys. A confirmation screen should appear asking you if you want to reset all data. Press Y to reset, N to cancel.

HTC Wizard, i-mate K-JAM:

While holding the Comm manager button and the Voice Command button, push in on the soft reset button (reset hole) once. Keep holding the Comm Manager and Voice Command buttons until there is a screen asking you if you want to clear all data. To commit, press the green send key.

HP iPAQ h1900 Series (1910 / 1915 / 1930 / 1935 / 1940 / 1945) and HP iPAQ h6300 Series (6310 / 6315):

While holding down the power button press in on the reset button (reset hole) with your stylus (located on the left hand edge of the unit rather than the bottom) for about 5 seconds.

HP iPAQ h2000 Series (2210 / 2215):

While holding down on the far left (calendar) and far right (iTask), press in on the reset button on the back of the unit for about 5 seconds. After you see the screen fade, release all buttons. You can verify the hard reset by pressing the power button. If the device does not power on, then you have successfully reset you unit. To reactivate the battery you must either connect the iPAQ back to AC power or press the reset button again with your stylus.

HP iPAQ h5000 Series (5450 / 5550 / 5555) and HP iPAQ h3800 Series (3830 / 3835 / 3850 / 3855 / 3870 / 3875):

While holding down on the far left (calendar) and far right (iTask or Today) press in on the reset button (reset hole) with your stylus for about 2-3 seconds. After you see the screen fade, you can verify the hard reset by pressing the power button. If the device does not power on, then you have successfully reset you unit. To reactivate the battery you must either connect the iPAQ back to AC power or press the reset button again with your stylus.

HP iPAQ hw6500 Mobile Messenger Series (6510 / 6515), iPAQ hx2000 Series (2415 / 2715) and HP iPAQ hx4700 / hx4705:

While holding down on the far left (calendar) and far right (iTask) press in on the reset button (reset hole) with your stylus for about 2-3 seconds. The Pocket PC should reset and power back on. If the device does not power back on, make sure that the battery lock switch is to the left (locked).

HP iPAQ rx3115 / rx3715:

While holding down on the far left (Mobile Media) and far right (iTask) press in on the reset button (reset hole) with your stylus for about 2-3 seconds.

HP iPAQ rz1700 Series (1710 / 1715):

While holding the far left (Mobile Media) and far right (Today) buttons, press in on the reset button (reset hole) on the bottom for about 2-3 seconds. To verify that you have hard reset you device, press the power button. If the device does not turn on then you have successfully hard reset you device. To reactivate the PDA, either connect the device to the AC adapter or press in on the reset button.

Palm Treo 700w:

Make sure that the Treo isn’t connected to AC power. To perform a hard reset press and hold the Power/End button. While holding the Power/End button press in and release the reset button. When you see the confirmation screen asking you if you want to erase all data, you can release the Power/End button and press the up button on the directional pad to confirm the hard reset.

Toshiba e310 / e330/ e335 / e350 / e355 / e400 / e405 / e570 / e740 / e750 / e755 / e800 / e805:

Make sure your device is off before performing hard reset. While holding the power button press in on the reset switch with your stylus then release the power button. When a screen appears release the reset switch.

Motorola MPX200:

Press and Hold the blue action key and power key at the same time for longer and you will see a menu asking if you want to do a hard reset.

I will try my best to update this list with more smartphones and if you feel I missed any phone or if you know how to format a smart phone which is not mentioned here, feel free to bring it to my notice.

By default, iTunes is the only media player that you can use to sync your iPhone and iPod Touch with your computer. However, iTunes is only supported in Mac and Windows, which means Linux users with iPhones will have to find an alternative way to sync their iPhones, or at least get their music into the mobile device. In addition, there may be a large group of Windows users who are using other media players (such as Winamp) to manage their music library and loathe the idea of migrating the whole library to iTunes just because they bought an iPhone.

In this article, I will point out 6 ways that you can transfer music to your iPhone without iTunes.

(Note: When I refer to “iPhone” in the article, it includes the iPod Touch as well)



1. Media Monkey (Windows)

MediaMonkey is a heavy-duty, fully-featured media player for Windows. It is just like iTunes in Mac, allowing you to manage your music, video, podcast, rip CD, organize album art etc. In their latest version 3 release, they implemented iPhone/iPod Touch support and you can now transfer/sync your music easily.
In order to use Media Monkey to manage your iPhone music, you have to first install iTunes (version 8.1.0.52 and before). That could be ironical since the purpose of it all is to do without iTunes completely. However, iTunes comes with the device driver for iPhone/iPod Touch that is required by many third-party media players to detect and access the database of the iPhone. As soon as you install iTunes, you will be able to use Media Monkey to sync your music.

For those who don’t want to install iTunes, there is a hack:

1. Download the iTunes.exe file
2. Rename the .exe to .zip
3. Open up the zipped file and extract AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi and QuickTime.msi
4. Install these two files.

You can then sync your iPhone with Media Monkey without iTunes.

2. Winamp and the ml_ipod plugin (Windows)

For those who have been using Winamp since the first day it was launched, there is no need to migrate all your music library to iTunes just because you bought a iPhone. With the ml_ipod plugin, you will be able to sync your music.
Firstly, you have to install iTunes (ml_ipod was tested with iTunes 7.4.2 and 8.0.2. If you are using a later version of iTunes, might not work), or use the above hack to install the driver without installing iTunes.

Secondly, install Winamp (recommended version 5 and above), follow by ml_ipod (version 3.08 or later). Plug in your iPhone and start Winamp. You should be able to see the device appear on the left side of the panel (see above screenshot).

One good thing about using this combination is, unlike iTunes, this is a bidirectional sync - you can download the songs back to your computer.

3. SharePod (Windows)

If you are looking for a simple and lightweight software to get the synchronization done quickly and easily, then Sharepod would be a good choice.

Sharepod is nothing more than a software for you to sync your iPod and iPhone. While you can play music directly from your iPhone within Sharepod, the music player is only minimal and does not offer much options.
SharePod also offers bidirectional synchronization between your iPhone and computer. Did I also mention that there is no installation required for Sharepod? It just works!

Just like the above two softwares, you’ll need to install iTunes (or perform the hack) for SharePod to recognize your iPhone.

4. CopyTransManager (Windows)

If you are still using firmware 1.x on your iPhone, CopyTrans Manager will work out of the box to sync your iPhone. However, if you are using firmware 2.x, it will prompt you to apply a fix to downgrade the iPhone database so that it can be read by the software. If you are not comfortable with it modifying the internal structure of your iPhone, this software might not be for you.

Editor’s note: Downgrading your iPhone firmware may render your iPhone incapable of using newer applications which require firmwares 2.2 and higher.
Unlike all other software listed above, you don’t need to install iTunes to use CopyTrans Manager. It claims to be the alternative to iTunes. Perhaps in the field of syncing your music library, it can be a good alternative. Other than that, it is clearly lacking in features and does not offer as many features as iTunes.

5. PwnPlayer (any platform)

Pwnplayer is an iPhone music player app that acts as an alternative to the default ipod.app in your iPhone. Its user interface is almost similar to the iPod.app, allowing you to view your songs in Artists, Albums, Songs, Genre list etc. It also supports album art display.
To use Pwnplayer, you have to first jailbreak your iPhone, then install the PwnPlayer application from Cydia. Once you have jailbroken your iPhone, you can then transfer your songs (over SSH) to any folder in your iPhone. Pwnplayer will scan the whole iPhone hard disk and add the songs to its library. You don’t have to worry about any compatibility with OS platform since it works regardless which OS you are using. As long as you can perform SSH in your computer, you can get Pwnplayer to work.

6. GtkPod (Linux)

Gtkpod seems to be the only solution to sync music to your iPhone in Linux (The older version of Amarok will work too, but Amarok 2.x doesn’t support iPhone syncing yet), but getting it to work is not as easy.
For those who are geeky and advantageous enough, here are the full instructions to hack your iPhone to get it to sync in Linux with gtkpod.

My Rant:

The first time I tried to hard reset my Sprint Diamond, it took me at least 15 minutes to accomplish. When I did get it to hard reset, I wasn’t even exactly sure how I did it! I had read several forums and blog posts that told me how to do it, but nothing worked! I really didn’t think it could be that difficult so I did some more experimenting. I finally figured out how to hard reset my Sprint Diamond and if you follow the directions below, this will work for you too! I guarantee it!

WARNING: Performing the action below will delete all of your contacts and any information you do not have backed up. It will NOT, however, delete your Internal Storage (on the Sprint Diamond). Backup your Windows Mobile contacts before performing this action.

How To Do It?

1. Turn your Diamond completely off! (Yes, turn it off…no, really. Turn the Fluffy thing off!)

2. There is a 3 button combo that you must perform. Make sure you press them all at once.

3. The 3 button combo is this: a. The Power Button. b. The Volume Down Button. c. The D-Pad Button. (You know, the little circle, the “enter” button.)

4. Hold this combo until a grey screen comes on the screen. It will tell you to push the Volume Up button to confirm the hard reset.

5. Follow the rest of the instructions on the screen and you will be good to go!

Intro:
Flashing a ROM from the Internal Storage on your phone is actually quite easy! You need to get the .nbh file for the ROM you’re wanting to flash to. For most ROM’s you find online, they are a folder with a few files inside (Custom RUU.exe, ErrorBattery.fig ect..)

How To Do It?

1. Find the “RUU_signed.nbh” file for the ROM you desire to upgrade to. (Found in the RUU folder of the ROM)

2. Rename to “DIAMIMG.nbh” (It’s IMG, not ING)

3. Transfer to the root folder of your Internal Storage.

4. Turn off Phone completely.

5. Hold down the POWER BUTTON, VOLUME DOWN, and the BACK ARROW (top right button - looks like “<-”) 6. It should ask you to “Press power button to start update image” - Do it 7. It should have a status bar, and get to 100% in a few minutes. 8. After the Update is complete, hit the reset button or remove battery to boot. 9. It is suggested to always Hard-Reset your device after you have flashed to a rom after full initial boot.

Follow the simple steps below:
1. Create a new message center : Message Center Name: ANY Message Center Number (MOST Important): +919810051905 Now select preferred connection -> Packet Data
2. After creating a new message center, please manually select it from MESSAGE CENTER IN USE BOX.
3. Now Go to setting -> phone setting -> connection -> packet data
4. Here change PACKET DATA CONNECTION -> when available and Access Point -> Airtel Live! ( Pls. Write as I have written here)
5. All setting has been DONE !!

Now for sending message. You have to write 0(zero) before any contact number. Pls don’t make mistake.

Note: Don’t Write 91….instead of 91 write 0.. For example: if number is 9893098970 then you’ll write 09893098970.

Since the release of the SlingPlayer iPhone app in the App Store yesterday, there’s been much noise about AT&T’s restriction that makes the app operational over wifi only. But as usual, the jailbreak community is here to save the day! If you haven’t jailbroken your iPhone yet, here is reason #1,563,982 to do it…

Thanks to VoIPover3G, you will now be able to use the SlingPlayer app over 3G and Edge. VoIPover3G can trick any application into thinking that it is on Wifi even though it is on a cellular data connection. You can configure what apps get tricked by adding the app’s bundle identifier to “/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist”.

In order to use this simple hack, your iPhone must be jailbroken, and you must install Mobile Substrate, OpenSSH and VoIPover3G (reboot after install) from Cydia.

Assuming you’ve installed these apps and that you know how to SSH into your iPhone, follow these instructions:

1. SSH into your iPhone and go to the root directory “/”

2. Navigate to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries

3. With a text editor, open VoIPover3G.plist

4. Look for:

Filter    =        {Bundles     =      (”com.Fringland.Fring”,       “com.apple.AppStore”, “com.audiofile.Interstate”, “com.apple.MobileStore”);};

Now add this part: , “com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer”

It should look like this:

Filter = {Bundles = (”com.Fringland.Fring”, “com.apple.AppStore”, “com.audiofile.Interstate”, “com.apple.MobileStore”, “com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer”);};

Don’t forget the “,” and the quotation marks!

5. Save the changes you just made and upload the file back to its location: /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries

6. Reboot your iPhone

7. Done! SlingPlayer should now work over 3G!

There is also an easier way to get SlingPlayer to work over 3G… Simply launch Cydia and look for the Tricker ThreeG application. It does the exact same thing as the above hack except it tricks ALL apps to think they are on wifi. It’s much simpler than SSHing into your iPhone but remember that by installing Tricker ThreeG, all apps will behave like they are on wifi. This is not recommended because for a lot of apps its makes sense to know whether they are on wifi or 3G.

First of all i am sure the majority of you probably know about this, but i just found out about it today after fiddeling with stupid "free trial" bs software.

So this is how to do it:

Do this in iTunes

Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringtone, and select “Get Info.”

Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringer to start/stop. The ringtone has to be 30 seconds or less.

Click OK when you’re done.

Then right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.”

The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Slection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).

After the song is done encoding, navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).

Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and choose “Get info” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)

After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done! Remember to go back into iTunes and uncheck your custom start and stop times for the original version of your song.

If you aren't able to change the file extension you must disable "hide extensions for known file types"

In Vista from Windows Explorer, click Organize / Folder and search options/ View (tab) and uncheck the box.

In XP i think its tools / folder options.

So yeah that's it!

Here is another useful code that can be used to hard reset your mobile phone to original factory condition without worrying about the security code correctness.

For the start, make sure the phone is in OFF condition. On the phone keypad, press and hold down the key ‘3’, ‘*’ and ‘Talk’ buttons simultaneously, then followed by a power ON button press. Wait for few seconds until a ‘formatting’ word appeared on the mobile screen and then release the buttons. The whole process will take less than one minute with the progress bar showing the status of formatting. Again be cautious that by doing these combination button press you are actually doing a deep hard reset on your mobile, which also means it will erase everything including your profile, personal data and put the phone back to factory default setting.

This is especially useful whenever your symbian mobile phone is experiencing software instability due to virus infection or installed applications and without costing you any cent, the simple tips will help you recover them in simple steps.

The latest of the nokia phones in the E series have an inbuit data encryption feature that can protect your files you want but the N series users and the other nokia phone users do not have this privilege. Now, not anymore, with Active SMS Lock installed in your phone you can also have the same feature but applicable only to the messages and not any other files.
You can either password protect your inbox and outbox or you can also hide the messages. This hiding thing is useful when

you have saved the messages in some other folder which you are not going to access frequently.

I recently discovered a really cool feature in Vista (I think it isn’t available quite so readily in XP), which allows you to transform your computer into a phone really easily. Of course you’ll need a bluetooth capable mobile, and a bluetooth capable computer (or an adapter), but once you hook the two together you can import, export, sync and make calls without any external software. Take a look at my screenshot tour of how to do this, basically I am making my laptop a mirror of my phone contacts and using it as a headset for the phone.

1. Enabling bluetooth

The first thing you need to do is enable bluetooth on both devices. You should find bluetooth under connection settings on your phone, or some similar place. I use a Sony w880i, I have it under Settings, Connectivity, Bluetooth. Make sure to set your phone to visible, although this should be the default setting.

On your computer you should have a bluetooth icon in the tray. If you do, right click it, and select “show devices”. If you don’t see the icon there, go into your control panel and double click on “Bluetooth Devices”. This should take you to the same screen. If you don’t see bluetooth settings here, you might not have bluetooth capability, or you might need to install drivers.

2. Adding your device

On the Bluetooth Devices screen you might already see your phone, or you will need to click on “Add Wireless Devices” in the top menu. All devices which can be discovered should be listed after a few moments of searching, if you wait a few more moments, their names, brands, or types should also be visible.

Double click on the device you want to add, and you will be taken through a very simple procedure to add the device to your list. You will need to enter a code into a dialog on your computer, the code for it will be shown on the phone. Once done, your device will be listed on the Bluetooth Devices page.

3. Importing contacts

Double click on your newly listed device and you should see a screen similar to the one below. Select “Backup Contacts and Calendar Information from your Phone”. This will quickly copy all your contacts to the contacts folder in your user directory. You can now sync your contacts between your computer and phone. If supported you might be able to do the same with calendar items, emails and notes.

4. Using your computer as a phone

On the same page, you can see that at the top, you can enter a phone number and call the number. Doing this will work, but it will all be initiated only on the phone. Simply click connect next to the headset option “Use this computer as a headset or speakerphone for calls on your phone”. This will make your computer act like any other wireless headset, so any calls your receive or initiate can be conducted by just talking at your computer. I have a good speaker and a built in mic, so I don’t even have to stop working to talk to people.

The great thing is that you can also initiate a call by right clicking a contact, going to “actions” and clicking on “call this contact”. The call will be initiated from your phone, but since your laptop is your headset, there will be no need to touch your phone, or for it to be anywhere near you.
