Kate Gosselin might have a lot on her plate, but that hasn’t stopped this prolific babymaker from being a prolific writer as well. Her third book is due (pun!) on October 13, but it’s not a tell-all account about her on-the-rocks marriage with Jon, or anything that I might actually be interested in reading. Instead, she is gracing our kitchens with her very own cookbook. Yep, that’s right, it’s called Love Is in the Mix: Making Meals Into Memories. But, of course, Kate isn’t just giving us any previews of her tasty recipes. After the jump, the ingredients we’re expecting.
- 4 cups of nutritious recipes
- 2 1/2 cups of tips on how to eat organically
- 1 cup advice on how to feed a family on a budget
- 3/4 cup photos of Kate and her family
- A pinch of who the eff cares
- 1 tsp advice on how to handle picky eaters
- 1 tbs anecdotes about Kate and her fam
- 1/2 cup advice on how to plan meals for vacations plus a drop of how would you know
- 2 tbs of ways to make lunch fun
Kate is no more qualified to write a book on cooking than I am to write one on dating. Critics are already slamming her cookbook saying that most of the receipes are plagarized. They say her “Monkey Munch” can be found on the Chex website. Kate once said, “Real cooks don’t need recipes,” but what she should of said was, “Real cooks don’t need my recipes.” Thanks but no thanks, Kate!
Yellow Ribbon on Google index page means Memorial Day on May 25, 2009 and the The Yellow Ribbon Program Google put a yellow ribbon on the homepage of its US site. The Yellow Ribbon program on United States Department of Veterans Affairs Government page posted GI Bill Website (Yellow Ribbon program).
What is the Yellow Ribbon Program?
The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. [Source]

Nov. 19 is World Toilet Day, a time to reflect upon how far modern sanitation has come. In the United States in 2005, less than half of one percent of the country's more than 124 million households didn't have a flushing toilet [source: U.S. Census Bureau]. In comparison, 71 percent of India's total population of more than one billion people had no access to a toilet that same year. There were an estimated 350 million public and private toilets in the United States by the mid-1990s [source: Flushmate] -- a lot of toilets by anyone's measure. So what would happen if everyone in the United States decided to flush their toilets at the same time in celebration of World Toilet Day?
Since as far as we could find out -- no one's ever tried it before -- we can't say for certain exactly what would happen. But we can take a pretty good guess: "It would be ugly," says Steve Cox, one wastewater treatment facility operator we interviewed.
If everyone in the United States flushed the toilet at the same time, sewer systems across the country would be overwhelmed with wastewater.
The average home in America is outfitted with sewer pipes around four inches in diameter. The pipes from your home are connected to subdivision systems, which connect together at street systems. Street systems tie into road systems, which go to main road systems, and, ultimately, waste treatment plants. Underneath your town is a wastewater system as complex as a spider's web.
The closer you get to the treatment plant, the larger the inside diameter of the pipes becomes. So a four-inch pipe from your house connects to a 12-inch pipe and so on, until -- in larger cities -- pipes may be almost 10 feet in diameter. A pipe this size can hold a lot of water, but can it hold enough for everyone to flush at once?
If everyone in each of Milwaukee, Wisconsin's 330,584 households all flushed just one toilet at the same time, and each of those toilets expelled 3.5 gallons per flush, then Milwaukee's sewer system would suddenly be inundated with 1,157,044 gallons of wastewater [source]. Even with the city's new 108-inch pipes, this could be a problem, and we're not even counting all of the public toilets in the city.
Of course, the earth isn't level underneath many cities, and to overcome changes in elevation, sewer systems use lift stations, wastewater plants that push sewage uphill toward its final treatment destination. These stations would be the first overwhelmed by unanimous flushing. There would simply be too much wastewater trying to pass through the pipes at the same time -- kind of like trying to force an orange through a drinking straw -- and the flow of sewage would stop. Sewage already past the lift stations would return downhill, and as the lift stations flooded, the lines leading to them would back up.
Eventually this sewage would find its way to the place where this whole debacle originated -- your home. Backflow valves probably wouldn't help. Not only would your toilet overflow, but so, too, would every wastewater line in your home, including your shower, kitchen and bathroom sinks, and even your dishwasher and washing machine.
Outside, the manhole covers dotting the street would also flood and overflow, leaving people in sewage possibly more than ankle deep. Depending on how many people live in your city and how large the sewer pipes are, it could be even worse.
-flow Toilets: A Lot Less Mess
If everyone in Milwaukee conducted the same experiment from the first page using only low-flow toilets, only 528,934 gallons of wastewater would suddenly deluge the city's sewer system. This would still cause quite a mess, but it would correct itself much faster, and the water pressure would equalize more quickly, too.
But low-flow toilets weren't designed to save Milwaukee from a public health hazard and an environmental catastrophe. They were designed to conserve water. And they have become so valuable at serving this purpose that they have replaced traditional toilets in stores. In fact, it is federal law that no toilet may be produced in the United States that uses more than 1.6 gallons per flush.
China Photos/Getty ImagesIn Beijing, China, a very low-flow toilet is demonstrated using only a half-gallon of water.
When they were first introduced in the early 1990s, low-flow (or low-flush) toilets were accepted warily by consumers in the United States. They clogged easily, and even when the toilets didn't clog, they often failed to do their job on the first try. Some consumers griped that they had to flush the toilet more than once. If a homeowner had to flush a low-flow toilet three times, then he or she used 4.8 gallons, more than a gallon more than with a traditional toilet. Some Americans became so fed up with low-flow toilets that they crossed the northern border into Canada to purchase 3.5-gallon toilets, since none were available for sale back in the States. But low-flow technology has improved since the '90s, and the next generation of low-flow toilets appears to combine improved function with water conservation.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggests that consumers in the market for a toilet should look for the WaterSense label. This certification is given to toilets that use no more than 1.28 gallons per flush, verified by testing at independent laboratories.
The EPA estimates that the average American will flush the toilet around 140,000 times in his or her lifetime. Since the amount of available water has become a real issue in the United States in the past few years, low-flow toilets are helping to allay a growing problem. The EPA is not the only governmental agency encouraging Americans to replace their toilets with low-flow toilets: Some American municipalities are offering $50 and $100 rebates as incentives for homeowners to make the switch. If everyone in the United States used only WaterSense toilets, the country would save an estimated 900 million gallons of water per day, equal to roughly twenty minutes of flow over Niagara Falls.
Just the savings alone (around $90 per year on your water bill) is reason enough for many people. But don't forget to take into account that if everyone switched to WaterSense toilets, it would cut the amount of mess caused by everyone flushing their toilets at the same time by more than half. And avoiding ankle-deep sewage is good for everyone.

The ultra-conservative Taliban are no big fans of the West and they banned all gizmos and other forms of entertainment in Afghanistan but these rules are slightly relaxed for the top leadership of Taliban.
Former Taliban ambassador Mullah Zaeef, who is currently in Kabul after spending years at the Guantanamo bay in Cuba, is a huge fan of his "Made in America" iPhone and uses it for Internet as well as GPS.
You can buy an unlocked iPhone in some Kabul shop for around $800 which I won’t classify as ‘very expensive’ because the device, if purchased legally, would cost almost the same in Pakistan and India.
Given their love for the iPhone, don’t be surprised if the CIA gets Apple to manufacture some special iPhone models (with tracking) especially for Afghanistan hoping that some Al Qaeda operatives would buy them. ;)

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Facebook now lets you list and connect to your family members in the “Basic Information” part of your profile. Starting later today and through this weekend, you will see a new “Family Members” section within the Information tab on your profile. You can enter your parents, children, sisters and brothers and can list family members even if they aren’t Facebook users. If you include their birthdays, Facebook will show their ages too.
This is a good idea in theory and I think many users would have no problem listing and connecting siblings on their profiles. But I feel that a lot of people may not use this feature because they don’t want to list their parents on their profiles. I can see parents wanting to list their children but I’m not so sure that the feeling would be mutual, especially amongst younger users who may not want their parents to be connected to their lives via Facebook.
Facebook also said it is considering an extended family section for the future.

Life without a mobile phone in the early days was like living without eyebrows… you don’t really need it, but it does improve your image if you have it.Nowadays, without a mobile phone, you are considered like “cave man” who doesn’t take advantages of the latest technologies of modern era. Nowadays people don’t even ask if you have a mobile phone, they just ask directly your mobile number and give you this strange look of disgust coupled with astonishment if you tell them you don’t have that one.
I remember visiting my local vegetable vendor lately and borrowing his mobile phone to call my mom at home, just to ask her if she needed me to buy a certain vegetable…
I recollect the days when I cast my eyes on the first few mobile phones, they were as big as my compass box in school, and you could’ve killed somebody with that “hammer”. It was something that our military could use if they ran out of bullets. That hammer however became the dream gadget for every teenager, we all wanted to have one suspended around our waist. Today if we see somebody roaming around the streets with that big thing around his waist, we would probably think he’s working for some kind of security agency or terrorist.
Nowadays even science books in school rate mobile phones as one of the basic necessities of life after food, shelter, air and clothing.
Alright that was just a joke, you don’t really have to go and check. However, the truth is that the mobile phone has just crept ever so slowly into our daily lives and without our notice that it has become part and parcel of our daily life.
I guess it’s good in a way that we have become a more mobile society and things can be done by pressing just a button, but it is thought-provoking fact that what would happen if all the mobile networks were down for merely single hour???. Well, I know one thing for sure; I won’t be calling home and asking for a second opinion on a vegetable.
Let’s give it a thought …shall we??
Do you know what it means to have a "cell" phone?
One of the most interesting things about a cell phone is that it is really a radio. Before cell phones, people who needed mobile communications ability installed radio telephones in their cars. In the radio telephone system, there was one central antenna tower per city, and perhaps 25 channels available on that tower. The cellular phone system divides the area of a city into small cells. This allows extensive frequency reuse across a city, so that millions of people can use cell phones simultaneously.
Here's how it works: The carrier chops up an area, such as a city, into cells. Each cell is typically sized at about 10 square miles (perhaps 3 miles x 3 miles). Cells are normally thought of as hexagons on a big hexagonal grid. Each cell has a base station that consists of a tower and a small building containing the radio equipment. Cell phones have low-power transmitters in them and the base station is also transmitting at low power. Low-power transmitters have two advantages:
- The power consumption of the cell phone, which is normally battery-operated, is relatively low. Low power means small batteries, and this is what has made handheld cellular phones possible.
The transmissions of a base station and the phones within its cell do not make it very far outside that cell. Therefore, cells can use the same 56 frequencies. The same frequencies can be reused extensively across the city. - The cellular approach requires a large number of base stations in a city of any size. A typical large city can have hundreds of towers. But because so many people are using cell phones, costs remain fairly low per user. Each carrier in each city also runs one central office called the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO). This office handles all of the phone connections to the normal land-based phone system, and controls all of the base stations in the region.
As you move toward the edge of your cell, your cell's base station will note that your signal strength is diminishing. Meanwhile, the base station in the cell you are moving toward (which is listening and measuring signal strength on all frequencies, not just its own one-seventh) will be able to see your phone's signal strength increasing. The two base stations coordinate themselves through the MTSO, and at some point, your phone gets a signal on a control channel telling it to change frequencies. This hand off switches your phone to the new cell.
Gravity is one of those things we take completely for granted. And there are two things about it that we take for granted: the fact that it is always there, and the fact that it never changes. If the Earth's gravity were ever to change significantly, it would have a huge effect on nearly everything because so many things are designed around the current state of gravity.

Photo courtesy of Zero Gravity Corporation
Eating small pieces of candy might be a problem if there was no gravity on Earth.
Before looking at changes in gravity however, it is helpful to first understand what gravity is. Gravity is an attractive force between any two atoms. Let's say you take two golf balls and place them on a table. There will be an incredibly slight gravitational attraction between the atoms in those two golf balls. If you use two massive pieces of lead and some amazingly precise instruments, you can actually measure an infinitesimal attraction between them. It is only when you get an gigantic number of atoms together, as in the case of the planet Earth, that the force of gravitational attraction is significant.
Gravity in Space
Famed Physicist, Stephen Hawking, took air travel to new heights as he left gravity and his wheel chair, floating weightless in a specially-designed jet that dives through the sky to give passengers an experience of zero gravity. The 65-year-old British physicist has been wheelchair-bound for almost 40 years.
Watch this video featuring BMX superstar Chad Kagy as he talks about gravity on HowStuffWorks. Even when Chad Kagy is spinning off the top of the half-pipe, he's stable and completely in control. Whether your launching pad is the half pipe, or the Kennedy Space Center, you HAVE to stay stable. .
The reason why gravity on Earth never changes is because the mass of the Earth never changes. The only way to suddenly change the gravity on Earth would be to change the mass of the planet. A change in mass great enough to result in a change in gravity isn't going to happen anytime soon.
Could we survive without gravity?
But let's ignore the physics and imagine that, one day, the planet's gravity turned off, and suddenly there was no force of gravity on planet Earth. This would turn out to be a pretty bad day. We depend on gravity to hold so many things down -- cars, people, furniture, pencils and papers on your desk, and so on. Everything not stuck in place would suddenly have no reason to stay down, it would start floating. But it's not just furniture and the like that would start to float. Two of the more important things held on the ground by gravity are the atmosphere and the water in the oceans, lakes and rivers. Without gravity, the air in the atmosphere has no reason to hang around, and it would immediately leap into space. This is the problem the moon has -- the moon doesn't have enough gravity to keep an atmosphere around it, so it's in a near vacuum. Without an atmosphere, any living thing would die immediately and anything liquid would boil away into space.
In other words, no one would last long if the planet didn't have gravity.

Without gravity, the water in oceans, rivers and lakes would disappear, leaving Earth with no water supply.
If gravity were to suddenly double, It would be almost as bad, because everything would be twice as heavy. There would be big problems with anything structural. Houses, bridges, skyscrapers, table legs, support columns and so on are all sized for normal gravity. Most structures would collapse fairly quickly if you doubled the load on them. Trees and plants would have problems. Power lines would have problems. The air pressure would double and that would have a big effect on the weather.
What this answer shows you is just how integral gravity is to our world. We can’t live without it, and we can't afford to have it change. It is one of the true constants in our lives!
Boredom... I dunno why, but I consider it to be a state of mind more blissful than sleep. Not the plain boredom though, but severe boredom, when you have absolutely no idea about what you want to do. You just sit there staring in the blank space. These lines written till now are forced out despite boredom. God! I didn't know I could suck so much... even as I write I have absolutely no idea where I am going to end up or what I am gonna write on. Twice already I have used three dots which show an indefinite end to ideas leaving them hanging in the air.
That was so irrelevant and unrelated.
After 10 minutes... I browsed through my friends list on Orkut profile. I realised I had added some just because they sent me a request and I have to bump into them more than one time in a week. I deleted them nevertheless. I like to keep only my friends close to me, not some acquaintances. I have a some friends in my list who have more than 1ooo 'Orkut friends'. Talk about quality and quantity, eh!
I don't like anybody to hover behind me while I am sitting at the computer. I know they may not be trying to read what is there on screen (even though its nothing censurable) but what the heck... I am goddamn bored, I can make any kind of statements as far as I am not asking them to follow it. Should I do that, I will get a smack on my head from behind itself and the next thing I come to know my internet connection will be terminated. Hmph!
There are some people who you can't help but hate from the first sight itself. I don't know why, but there have been couple of people I cannot stand whatsoever. Karma, incompatible aura, bad vibes, negative feelings, preconceived notions - call it whatever you want to, even though your best friends may get along well with them, you won't be able to do so with this one particular person. I like to think of such people when I am bored and hate them in peace... without judging myself or caring enough if it's actually ethical to allow such a stream of vicious thoughts about any innocent guy. One blissful advantage of boredom: you are too drunk on it to be introspective.
One thing which escapes my limited intelligence is why people act so "oversmart" when it comes to the freaking values and traditions? Now, bored or sane, I always hated these self-proclaimed Moral Police. One such incident which pissed me off was that Akshay Kumar's unbuttoning jeans episode at the fashion show (his wife unbuttoned his jeans on the ramp). This guy slapped a case on Kumar and his wife for indecency. First of all, this show was never formally aired on television, it's pictures appeared in newspapers and some clips were shown on entertainment channels. And I am pretty sure this sata-savatra bastard was not the one attending that show either that his nuts interchanged their places on the spot because of the "show of indecency". It is the people like him who are so cheap that to bask in the 15 seconds of fame they target any person. Now I am no die-hard fan of Kumar or his wife or anything, but I just hate such stupid people. I mean, c'mon dude, how jobless could you get? I can picture: he must have sat in front of TV, one saturday evening, with his wife and kids, watching some C-grade Hindi news channel where these equally loser of people show news in a cheap way. And his little chunnu-munnu might've got their first dose of kinkiness in the presence of their parents who might be squirming in their seats due to embarrassment. No wonder he filed a case against them.
Inference: When bored, do what your heart says. I think it also applies to 'when in love', but anyways, it works.
P.S. A tip to fellow-bloggers: No one really cares about the bland and mundane incidents in your daily life unless you are one hot shot celebrity.

Details of the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup in England Announced
Although details for the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup have been announced there is still uncertainty over the final line up of teams. The ongoing political situation in Zimbabwe makes their participation uncertain and the two participating associate member nations will not be decided until their qualifying tournament in August 2008.Fixtures and venues for the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup have been released. The Tournament will take place in England from June 5 -21.
The 2009 competition will also incorporate the first Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. The majority of the Women’s tournament will take place at Taunton in Somerset but the semi-finals and final will be held as double headers with the men’s matches at Trent Bridge, The Oval and Lord’s.
2009 Twenty20 World Cup Groups
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the top two ranked teams in each group are seeded 1 and 2. They will retain this seeding for the Super Eights stage, irrespective of whether they finish first or second in their group. If team 3 knocks either of the seeded teams out, this team will take their seeded number.
For example, if Sri Lanka wins Group C and Australia are second, for the purposes of the Super Eights; Australia will still remain C1 and Sri Lanka C2. If West Indies, for example, qualifies instead of Australia they will become C1.
The ICC state this is to ease logistics and to provide spectators and television companies with certainty as to the location of team matches.
